Phong Nha is the most famous cave in Quang Binh, Central of Vietnam. Phong Nha cave is located in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang area in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province about 45km from the northwest of Dong Hoi city. From Dong Hoi city to Phong Nha Cave, visitors will go on the legendary Truong Son Road. After arriving at Phong Nha tourist center, visitors take a boat on Son River to visit Phong Nha. According to scientists, Phong Nha Cave formation is a natural process that took place 250 million years ago. This cave is a type of underground flows in the mountain with many typical stalactites. Legendary, the falling stalagmites at the entrance of the cave have contributed to the poetic name of Phong Nha, which means “Wind through the teeth”. The name Phong Nha also comes from here. Phong Nha stalactites are considered beautiful and take millions of years to form.

Phong Nha is famous for its unique stone blocks named after natural shapes like “Lion”, “Unicorn”, “Elephant”, “Palace” or “Buddha statue”. After about 19km underground under the Truong Son range, the river appears at the cave gate with blue water color in the dry season and red color seasons.
Visitors can also explore the creation of stalagmites and stalactites in some of the 14 rooms inside the cave. Inside about 1km is Bi Ki cave, a sub-branch deep in Phong Nha cave, about 600m from the gate. It is believed that from the 9th century to the 11th century, Cham people chose this place as a place of worship.
